Acceptable Uniform

students in a classroom doing a science experiment

Dear parent/carer,

As we approach the half way point of the year, we would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the students on a successful year so far.  Students continue to demonstrate the LORIC principles of leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative and character and this has culminated in over 15000 House Points awarded so far.  We are also down to the final 8 registration groups in the Quarter Finals for our first House Point Competition so look out for news on the winners after half term.  As we continue to set high standards for all our students, I include in this short message a reminder of our standards for our uniform.  When students return after half term there will be a short year group assembly in our main hall focussing on the South Wirral Way for Conduct and our expectations regarding uniform and equipment.  All students will be met by members of the Senior Leadership Team when they arrive at school and any issues can be addressed before the start of the school day and there will be an opportunity for students to purchase ties, planners and equipment in student entrance.

All students in Years 7 to 11 must wear:

  • Black blazer with SWHS badge
  • Long or short sleeve white shirt, must be tucked in and done up to the collar
  • School tie with House colours- available from Student Services
  • Black school trousers, black skirt or black pinafore dress.
  • Skirts must be knee length
  • Plain black belt with plain, non-branded buckle
  • Plain black, grey or white socks or tights
  • Polishable black school shoes; either flat or with a heel not exceeding 5cm
  • Sports trainers may only be worn for PE lessons or for games activities at lunchtime only
  • Other footwear, including walking boots and plimsolls, are not allowed to be worn

Please see the attached sheet with examples of acceptable and unacceptable uniform and footwear

The school PE kit is as follows:

  • Black bottoms (in hot weather we would advise shorts)
  • Red or white t-shirt for girls (preferably with the school logo)
  • Red t-shirt for boys (preferably with the school logo)
  • trainers

We recognise, that for a number of reasons, your child may not always be able to meet our uniform expectations and in these instances, we have a stock of spare uniform and PE kit which we will lend on a short-term basis.  If you are in any doubt about what is acceptable, please contact a member of the pastoral team before purchasing.  If you are experiencing any financial difficulties and require support then please do not hesitate to contact a member of your child’s House Team.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family an enjoyable and restful half term break.

Sincerely,
Miss G Williams

Deputy Headteacher
