South Wirral High School is a co-educational foundation secondary school and sixth form located in Eastham, Merseyside, England. MATHS ACADEMIC MENTOR

£21,000 per annum – 32.5 hours per week, 38 weeks yearly
Fixed term for 1 year initially with effect from 1st September 2022,
with a view to a permanent position, full-time

Person Specification

The person appointed should:
• Be a qualified teacher of Maths
• No experience of teaching in Secondary school is required, though this is desirable

Job Description

The post will focus on providing individual or small group (maximum 3 students) tuition during school hours and sometimes after school for an hour.
• Work with class teachers to identify individual needs and gaps in learning
• Teach individuals and small groups following the South Wirral Maths curriculum
• Set and mark a weekly homework using the school’s online learning packages
• This post is ideal for a newly qualified teacher who is looking for more experience before taking up a first teaching post. For such a candidate the school can provide further training experiences.
• Candidate can make flexible arrangements with the school about days of work and durations of contract

ASSISTANT HOUSE PROGRESS LEADER

 (Salary Scale – support staff Band G range £22,973 -£25,850)
Permanent contract, to start as soon as possible
Term time + 10 extra days to be agreed – 40 weeks per annum in total, 36 hours weekly

The successful candidate will be supported by a House Progress Leader and an Assistant Headteacher and will work as part of a team of four Assistant House Progress Leaders.

Principal responsibilities:
• Day-to-day monitoring of students’ behaviour for learning, attendance and punctuality
• Mentoring students to overcome barriers to learning
• Developing and maintaining communication with parents
• There will also be an opportunity to develop an area of specialism, to support professional development

In addition, the following responsibilities will be shared between the four AHPLS on a rota:
• Providing on-call first response to behaviour, bullying and safeguarding issues
• Supervising students in our Learning Base and Internal Exclusion Unit
