At South Wirral High School, we are committed to ensuring that all students can continue to learn effectively if they need to study from home. Our approach to remote education is designed to be flexible, inclusive, and consistent with national expectations set by the Department for Education.
Our Approach
In the event of full or partial school closure, or where students are required to self-isolate, we provide high-quality remote learning through a blend of live, recorded, and independent study resources. Our remote education offer aligns with the expectations outlined in the
DfE guidance for schools.
We aim to:
-
Deliver a curriculum that is as close as possible to what students would experience in school.
-
Provide meaningful and ambitious work in a range of subjects each day.
-
Use a combination of online platforms to support engagement, feedback, and communication.
Platforms We Use
-
Google Classroom – This is our primary platform for setting assignments, sharing learning resources, and providing feedback. Students should check their Google Classrooms daily for updates from their teachers.
-
Arbor – Parents and students can access Arbor to monitor attendance, view timetables, and receive important messages.
-
Other Online Resources – We also make use of various subject-specific tools and websites to enhance remote learning, all accessible via the Student Portal.
Accessing Remote Learning
All students can access their remote learning resources through our
Student Portal. The portal contains direct links to Google Classroom, timetables, and subject-specific learning materials.
A link to the Student Portal is also available at the top of every page of our school website.
Expectations
We expect all students learning remotely to:
-
Follow their normal school timetable where possible.
-
Engage with the work set and submit it by the deadlines given.
-
Attend live sessions when offered, behaving in line with our school values.
Parents and carers are encouraged to support their children by ensuring they have a quiet place to study and helping them to establish a routine.
Support for Students Without Digital Access
We are committed to supporting students who may not have adequate access to digital devices or the internet. If you require support, please contact the school and we will do our best to assist you, which may include loaning equipment or providing printed work packs.
