SUMMER SCHOOL 2021 STATEMENT
This summer our entire Year 7 cohort (212) was invited into school for a week of activities to help them prepare for the move to secondary school. The aim was to help the students adjust to a secondary school environment with many having never set foot in the school with open evenings being cancelled. We also wanted to offer some key support in English, Maths and Science to help give them a headstart for September.
The students took part in a wide range of exciting activities including; science experiments, creative writing courses, music, dance & drama workshops. We taught new skills such as sign language and the students performed in front of their peers.
We invited third party companies in to run specialist activities such as Wheels Extreme BMX and scooter assault courses and a special session with Sale Sharks rugby club where students developed skills such as working in teams and getting to know their new classmates. The whole year group had a fantastic time, made lots of new friends and got themselves ready for the start of the new school year.
The summer school was an invaluable experience to both give students the support they needed transitioning to secondary school and give them a really positive new experience to support their mental wellbeing.
