Dear Families,
We hope this email finds you well. Following previous information at Y9 Parent’s Evening regarding students choosing their GCSE options for next year, please find the first stage of this process enclosed in this email.
Click here to view the Options Handbook which details everything you need to know regarding options and the KS4 subjects, key dates coming up and actions you may need to take. We recommend that you spend some time reading this booklet with your young person and discussing subjects they are interested in taking. Students have received a hard copy of this in an assembly on Wednesday 22nd January in the main hall. Click here to view the Powerpoint Presentation shown during the assembly. As well as this, students will receive information from subject leads about their subjects at Key Stage 4 and what they should expect should they wish to opt for those subjects.
Once you complete this, the below link will take you through to a ‘Registration of Interest Form’. This is not their final option form, but is an important part of the process, as submitting this provides us with key information regarding subjects that Year 9 students are interested in taking next year. At this stage, students can mark down 4 subjects they are interested in.The deadline for completing this is Friday 7th February 2025.

We cannot guarantee that all students will be able to take their top four choices, but we work as hard as we can to get as close as possible to 100% satisfaction.
South Wirral, like most schools, consistently reviews the curriculum offered to students every single year to ensure that they are able to attain grades that will take them onto the best possible destinations in the future. As mentioned in our booklet, all course offers are provisional on the expectation that a subject continues to be a viable and successful option for students. Having now completed our curriculum review for this academic year. We are excited to be able to offer Sociology for the second year and an additional option in computing as an alternative to the GCSE computer Science course in creative iMedia. Students interested in Computer Science or creative iMedia will need to select computing from the drop down menu and then make their preference clear in the follow up question. Teachers and leaders will allocate the computing courses taking into account student preference, availability of resources, student numbers and likelihood of success. A further addition for this year is a textiles pathway through design technology which we hope will provide interest to a wider student demographic as well as the traditional design technology pathway.
Although no longer offering Psychology at GCSE, we continue to offer Psychology in Sixth Form and students will not be disadvantaged from taking this course in Year 12.
In the week beginning 10th February, you will then receive the final electronic option form. This will also be available on student’s tutor group pages on Google Classroom.
The final deadline for submitting the GCSE option form is then Friday 28th February 2025. Should you have any questions or queries regarding anything enclosed in the booklet, you can email us on [email protected] should you wish. Alternatively your child can speak directly with their class teacher or Year 9 pastoral team. We look forward to working with you and your young person as we go through the process of GCSE option selection.
Kind regards,
Mrs H Latham (Assistant Headteacher)
