‘South Wirral Dynamos’ Prepare to Conquer ‘Race the Sun’ for Charity

Four dedicated members of staff at South Wirral High School are gearing up to take on the formidable ‘Race the Sun’ challenge, a demanding triathlon-style event in the stunning landscape of the Lake District. The event, set for September 7th 2024, comprises a 40-mile bike ride around Keswick, a 10.5-mile hike up Skiddaw, and a 2-mile kayak course on Derwentwater Lake.

Led by newly-appointed Headteacher Mike Cloherty, the team includes Daryl Harrison (Assistant Headteacher), Tom Moseley (School Business Manager), and Andrew Stewart (Marketing Officer). Together, they form the ‘South Wirral Dynamos’, a group dedicated to raising funds for ‘Action Medical Research for Children‘ – a leading UK-wide charity focused on funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children, and young people.

Mike Cloherty expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

“The Race the Sun event is a perfect opportunity to push our limits and support a cause that makes a real difference in children’s lives. We are training hard and are determined to complete the challenge.

Highlighting the team’s preparation, he added

“At South Wirral, we know the importance of fitness and teamwork. All four of us have been preparing rigorously, balancing our training with our commitments at school. It’s been tough but incredibly rewarding.”

Daryl Harrison added:

“Participating in ‘Race the Sun’ is a fantastic way to show our students the importance of perseverance and community service. We’re excited to contribute to the charity and hope to inspire others to support this worthy cause.”

The South Wirral High School community has rallied around the team, offering encouragement and support. The South Wirral Dynamos are not only aiming to complete the race but also to raise significant funds to help Action Medical Research for Children continue their vital work.
