In Memory of Terry Parkin

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Terry Parkin, a long-serving and deeply valued member of South Wirral High School’s Governing Body. Terry joined the Governing Body in 1991 and dedicated over 30 years to supporting the school with his invaluable financial expertise, commitment, and wisdom.

Terry was a highly skilled accountant, and his financial acumen was instrumental in guiding the school through significant periods of change. From our journey to becoming a Visual and Performing Arts Specialist school, navigating the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently, the academisation process, Terry’s contributions were always thoughtful, measured, and driven by his passion for education and the community.

Beyond his work with the school, Terry was a deeply involved member of the local community and Christ the King Church. He was also a keen sportsman, with a lifelong passion for cricket and hockey. Terry played both sports and later served as a hockey referee. He was also an avid Liverpool FC supporter, and his love of sport was an enduring part of his life.

Terry was much respected by staff, governors, and students alike, and his presence will be greatly missed. South Wirral was honoured to be represented at his funeral by several members of staff and governors both past and present, including our Headteacher, Mr Mike Cloherty, who attended to pay respects on behalf of the school community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Terry’s family and friends during this difficult time. His legacy of dedication and service will always be remembered at South Wirral High School.
