Headteacher’s Round-Up – September 2024

Mr Cloherty in his office at South Wirral High school

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

As we conclude September, I am delighted to reflect on the excellent start to the academic year at South Wirral High School. It has been a month filled with energy and commitment, and I want to take this opportunity to celebrate our achievements together.

First and foremost, I would like to extend my gratitude to all parents for their dedication in preparing our students for this academic year. Your support is invaluable, and it was wonderful to see so many of you at the Year 7-10 Parents’ Information Evening. Your engagement is key to fostering our students’ success.

For our Year 11 families, thank you for attending the recent Parents’ Evening. It was a great opportunity for both students and parents to access essential guidance and feedback from class teachers as we embark on this crucial year. To further support our Year 11 students in developing independent study skills, we have introduced Revision Folders, which I encourage all students to utilize effectively. The folders have been developed to help students improve their organisational skills and help them prepare for examinations.

I would also like to commend our students for their exemplary conduct, which reflects our core values of kindness, respect, determination, independence, and ambition. Their commitment to modelling these values has truly set a positive tone for the school community. We often talk with students about calm corridors and calm, focused classrooms and I have been pleased with how many of our students consistently ensure this is the case.

A highlight of the month was our Open Evening on September 25th, which attracted nearly 500 families and over 1,000 visitors! The enthusiasm and warmth shown by our student volunteers were remarkable, and they represented South Wirral High School in an impressive manner. The overwhelming positive feedback we received from attendees is a testament to our vibrant school community.

Looking ahead, you will receive further information in the coming weeks regarding assessments for your child. This will include details about the content of the assessments and how students can best prepare themselves. We believe that clear communication is essential to support their success.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we are creating an environment where every student can become the best version of themselves.

Best wishes,

Mr M Cloherty
