The governing body of South Wirral High School is delighted to announce that Mr Mike Cloherty has been appointed the new Headteacher next month, following a rigorous selection process. Mr Cloherty has carried out the role of Acting Headteacher since September during and after Mr Goodwin’s (current headteacher) absence. Mr Goodwin will continue to work in education, both locally and across the region.
Mr Goodwin said:
“I am really pleased to pass the torch of leadership to Mr Cloherty, with whom I share a passionate ambition to develop the potential of all the students in our school. I have loved every minute of my 16 years at South Wirral – and I’m proud of the strength of leadership that has developed in the school. It is ready to embrace a new, exciting chapter in its history and its continuing commitment to the community it serves.”
Under Mr Goodwin’s tenure as Headteacher, South Wirral High School has continued to grow as a stand-out choice for families in the local area. Mr Richard Barker – Chair of Governors – expressed his gratitude to Mr Goodwin for his unwavering dedication and contributions over the many years, not least in guiding the school through the pandemic and to a “Good” Ofsted rating in its most recent inspection in 2022.
He and his fellow governors are keen to support and work with the new head as the school continues to grow and develop.
