Industrial Action – July 5th and July 7th

Dear parents and carers,

I have now completed a full risk assessment about whether we can open school during the next two days of industrial action by the National Education Union, on Wednesday July 5th and Friday July 7th.

As I result, I can announce that school will be open only to year 10 and 12 students on both those days, in addition to a small number of students in years 7-9 who have an EHCP.

Students in year 12 will follow their normal timetable.

Students in year 10 will follow a timetable that has been specifically designed to support their English, Maths, Science and some options subjects, while preparing them for their forthcoming work experience.

Attendance is compulsory and vitally important to prepare the students for work experience and for the next academic year.

Parents of students with an EHCP will be contacted by the SEND team. Students should only come into school if invited by the SEND team.

This is happening because we will not have enough staff to ensure that all students are safe and educated in school on that day.  We will only have the capacity to open for a reduced number of students. We have prioritised years 10 and 12 because those year groups are on examination courses and are preparing to start their work experience for the last two weeks of the school year.

In order to minimise the disruption to other children’s education, work will be set on Google classroom for years 7 to 9.

This has been an unprecedented year of disruption due to industrial action and I do acknowledge this may be very frustrating, particularly for parents of students in year 7,8 and 9. We hope that this dispute can be resolved before the new school year.

More details will follow next week,

Thanks for your understanding,

Mr Goodwin
