A New Space to Feel Safe, Supported and Heard: Introducing Our Wellbeing Room

At South Wirral High School, we believe that no child can do their best learning unless they first feel safe, valued and understood. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our new Wellbeing Room, a calm, safe and welcoming space designed to support the emotional health and wellbeing of our students.

A Dedicated Space for Every Child

The Wellbeing Room provides a dedicated environment where students can access support, take part in wellbeing interventions, and attend meetings with pastoral staff or external professionals, away from the busyness of the corridors and classrooms. It’s a space built around one simple idea: every student deserves somewhere to turn when things feel difficult, and no child should ever feel lost in the crowd.

Whether a student needs a quiet moment to reset, ongoing support through a structured intervention, or a private space to talk something through with a trusted adult, the Wellbeing Room is there for them.

Supporting the Whole Child

We recognise that positive mental health is essential for students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The Wellbeing Room reflects our wider commitment to supporting the whole child, ensuring that every student has access to the care, guidance and resources they need to feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

This is Kindness and Respect in action, and it’s a direct expression of our commitment to being a close-knit community where every young person is known and cared for as an individual.

Working in Partnership for Our Students

We know that the best support for young people happens when schools and specialist services work hand in hand. That’s why we are partnering with NHS agencies and other external services to widen the circle of support available to our students, bringing professional, specialist expertise directly into our school community. This partnership approach means students and families can access the right support, at the right time, without unnecessary barriers standing in their way.

A Word from Our Headteacher

“Every student who walks through our doors deserves to feel safe, valued and heard, and our new Wellbeing Room is a powerful, visible symbol of that promise. Supporting our students’ mental health and emotional wellbeing has never been more important, and this space ensures that no child ever has to face a difficult moment alone. By partnering with NHS agencies and other specialist services, we’re bringing even greater expertise into our school community, because our ambition for every student includes their happiness and wellbeing, not just their academic success.”

More Than a Room: A Wider Wellbeing Offer

The Wellbeing Room is just one part of a much broader push to support our students’ mental and physical wellbeing this year. We’re also running Pilates classes for groups of our Year 9 girls, delivered in partnership with Balance555 (@_balance555), giving students a chance to build confidence, strength and resilience in a supportive, girls-only environment. It’s another example of how we’re thinking beyond the classroom to make sure every student has the tools to feel good, both in body and mind, and we’ve got more wellbeing initiatives in the pipeline that we can’t wait to share.

Your Child. Their Future. Our Promise.

The Wellbeing Room is another example of what makes South Wirral different: we don’t just teach subjects, we nurture the whole person. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring every student, whatever their background or circumstances, has the support they need to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.
