A very warm welcome to all our new South Wirral High School students, and their families, who will be joining us in September. We are very excited to meet you all to welcome you to your new school. I hope that the information here will help answer any questions you may have.

Please start by completing the two data collection forms below in as much detail as you can. After that you should watch our ‘A Day In The Life’ video which will help you get a real feel for life as a year 7 here at South Wirral. Then you will see the ‘Moving On Up’ transition booklets for students and one for parents/carers.

There is also an introduction to Claire Holden, our student welfare officer and Miss Fidal from the SEND department. If you have any questions for them specifically please submit them here.

Finally you will see information on our Treasure Island transition literacy task. You will soon be receiving a hard copy of the transition task booklet in the post which we hope you will enjoy completing.

We are hoping to be able to meet everyone of you as soon as circumstances allow but in the mean time if you have any questions of queries please contact us on 0151 327 3213 or

I support the House Progress Leaders and the teachers to make sure everyone enjoys their time at South Wirral. I also work closely with the Local Authority, CAMHS, and Social Services. If you have any questions about the transition to secondary school specifically in relation to these outside agencies then please send me a message here.

Treasure Island - Transition Task

Mrs Hodson Evans from the English Faculty has put together a booklet based on Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island'. This will be sent to you to complete - a digital copy is also available to download and print here if required.

At no point are you to get worried if you cannot do some of the tasks or find the text hard to understand, yes, this booklet will be challenging but all we ask is that you do your very best.

This is how you should use your booklet:

  • Do one task a day, for example one day you might read the extract from Chapter 1 – The Black Dog. Then the following day you might choose to answer the questions and tasks for that extract.
  • The reading should take you about 45 minutes for each extract.
  • The question tasks will probably take 30 minutes.
  • The creative tasks will probably take 40 minutes.
  • I wouldn’t spend longer than that, per written task.

The aim is to do as much as you can, in your very best writing, using wonderful word choices, spelling and punctuation. Bring this booklet with you when you start school in September and hand it to your new English Teacher.

If you want to read all of the original text, you can read the book online here

You can listen to the audio book here

This 6-minute summary video will help as well

We invite our new students to send in questions to Mr Goodwin, who will answer a selection in a video we are putting together. The submission deadline has now passed, but feel free to email any queries you have to
