Year 9 get Arty for Ghana
South Wirral High School’s annual Ghana day took place last week, with Year 9’s being split into 4 groups for the day to take part in a number of entertaining lessons around a Ghanian theme.
Once again we were delighted to welcome Johnson – a teacher from our partner school in Accra, La Yahoushua Junior High School – to take part in the sessions and to discuss with our students the differences and similarities between education in Ghana and in England.
In the Art session, students were shown a piece of Ghanian artwork. Miss Finnigan bought the original piece from the Alliance Art Gallery in Ghana when she visited La Yahoushua last year with Miss Healing. She said:
“The students are tasked with reinterpreting ‘Kissing Fish’, a painting by Ghanian artist Kobina Nyarko. His theme and trademark is the depiction of tiny fish. It’s been a really fun and engaging lesson which allows the students to enjoy art, and understand a different culture’s techniques”
