Music Students perform for BBC’s Songs of Praise

Lights! Camera! Action!

On the evening of Friday 23rd June a group of 25 students from years 7 to 10 and 6 staff, went to Christchurch in Port Sunlight to take part in a recording for BBC’s Songs of Praise, as part of the school choir.

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to take part in a professional recording and we were also lucky enough to witness how the programme is directed and produced. We had to do several takes of each hymn, so the cameramen were able to obtain the best video and audio recordings. The person leading the rehearsal informed us that the cameramen practice their close-ups on one performance and then record during the second recording. Problems only arise if the people they intend to focus on cough, sneeze or forget to sing during the actual recording! It was a magnificent insight into how the world of performing and recording works in practice. All of the students were a complete credit to the school with their professionalism throughout the three-hour recording, demonstrating outstanding attitude, behaviour and of course, immense musical talent throughout. Well done to everyone who took part and to the staff who helped. It was a very enjoyable and insightful evening for us all.

The recordings will be aired on BBC1 from July onwards and will be split over a number of different programmes from this date, so don’t forget to set a series link!
