Celebrating GCSE Success 2016

Staff, students, and parents celebrate success on GCSE results day at South Wirral High School.

GCSE results once again demonstrated strength across the curriculum with students achieving excellent results in a wide range of subjects. Notably, there was an improvement in attainment for Maths (71% A*-C) and English, especially English Literature (92% A*-C).

Nearly 70% of all entries were at a C grade or above. An excellent result. Over half of our students achieved five or more GCSEs including English and Maths.

There were some exceptional individual achievements including Zoe Ward (8A*s, 2As); Victoria Sawdon (3A*s 6As) Georgia Gibson (2A*s, 4As); Abigail Stewart (4A*s, 4As). Also, Sarah Davies (1A*, 8As); Jack Hamer (8As); Elliot Cockayne (2A*s, 3As); Luke Percy (1A*, 6As); Nathan Ferguson (7As) and Chris Moss (1A*, 4As). Huge congratulations all round.

Our school and the wider community are proud of the students’ results, who have shown an excellent attitude to learning over five years to achieve these superb grades.

“South Wirral has really helped me to exceed my expectations thanks to the teachers’ help and revision guidance!” Heather Parr, aged 16 (above, middle)

The GCSE results follow an excellent set of results for many of our Sixth Form students, which saw many looking forward to taking up their offer of places at highly regarded universities.

We wish all our students every success in the future whether they are returning to our Sixth Form or have taken opportunities to take up apprenticeships or further their learning in another field. We invite all students who would like to take up our unique Sixth Form offer to attend enrolment on Wednesday 7th September for Year 12 and Thursday 8th September for Year 13/14. If students can’t attend on that day, please contact Mr. Neal (Head of Sixth Form) to arrange an appointment.

Further information about our examination success can be found on the school’s website, Twitter, Facebook and Moodle.
