Maths

Mathematics contributes to the school curriculum by developing pupils’ abilities to calculate; to reason logically, algebraically and geometrically; to problem solve and handle data efficiently. Mathematics is important for pupils in many other areas of study, in everyday living and in many types of employment. Mathematics presents opportunities for creativity, it can stimulate moments of pleasure and wonder when a problem is solved for the first time or when hidden connections suddenly manifest.

Mathematics is a subject that transcends cultural boundaries and its importance is universally recognised.

Our Aims

  •  To set challenging targets with high expectations for all students
  • To offer a variety of approaches to teaching and learning to engage and motivate pupils to actively participate.

 

At the end of the students Mathematical education, they should all be able to:

  • Perform basic numeracy skills.
  • Perform the basic Mathematical skills needed for their chosen career or entry to higher/further education.
  • Understand the Mathematics they are likely to encounter in daily adult life.
  • Reason clearly and logically.
  • Approach problem solving systematically, choosing appropriate techniques for their solutions.
  • Obtain their best possible result.
  • Experience enjoyment and satisfaction in their Mathematical achievements.
