Portsmouth and Tranmere both entered this game in full confidence after Portsmouth beat Cambridge 2-6 and Tranmere had dispatched Shrewsbury 2-1 in their previous League Two games.
It was the away side that started this game the brightest and it took 28 minutes for them to strike when Jennison Myrie Williams hit home from outside the box after a cool pass form Rory Donnelly.
Tranmere then struck again 5 minutes after half time when Kayode Odajeyi headed home after a bit of clever ball play on the right side of the pitch although the goal was later given as a Paul Jones own goal.
The next bit of action was when Craig Westcarr headed home after breaking free in the box to bring the scores to 1-2.
Ryan Taylor then brought the scores level when he hit home from six yards out to shock Tranmere after they had established a two goal lead.
There was further heartbreak for the away following as Ryan Taylor scored again on 85 minutes from a Joe Devera corner and the game finished 3-2 to the hosts with Tranmere having a two goal lead and letting it slip for the second time this season.
The result gave Portsmouth extra confidence in their push for the top half whilst Tranmere were denied another crucial three points at the business end of the season.
